Universal Fibers’ broad product offering serves commercial, transportation and industrial segments, and includes 3D print filament used for various applications such as medical and health care materials. In joining the fight against COVID-19, Universal Fibers has ramped up production of PLA and PETG print filament as the only chemistries approved to produce 3D Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Given the challenges and risks of coronavirus, we are doing everything possible to increase filament supply used specifically to print 3D masks and face shields needed to protect medical staff, patients and communities.
Universal Fibers remains committed to doing everything possible to defeat this global pandemic. |Universal Fibers® Reduces Energy Use by 52% - Tuesday, March 17, 2020|
Universal Fibers® is committed to carbon reduction and clean energy is making a difference. In 2015 we established science-based objectives to reduce carbon emissions related to energy sourcing and consumption. Since then we invested in significant measures to improve energy efficiency and began a process to transfer from fossil-fuel generated energy to clean renewable resources. As a result, we have reduced energy use in production by 52%.
This year we are broadening our scope to include our global facilities in Europe and Asia, and have established a goal to mitigate 100% of our environmental impact. This supports our 2015 carbon reduction objections as we strive to utilize clean renewable energy – reliable and affordable for all.

|Universal Fibers® Supports VT PEERS - Friday, February 28, 2020|
VT PEERS is a National Science Foundation grant program designed to raise awareness for engineering for middle school students in rural areas of Southwest Virginia. The initiative aims to elevate student interest in engineering before the move on to high school and decide on higher education and career options. The program engages educators from Virginia Tech and local middle schools, as well as engineers from Universal Fibers and other industry partners.
Support partners from Universal Fibers included Ranae Anderson, Global Sustainability Leader, and Logan Pensinger, Chemical Engineer. “This works by showing students engineering is everywhere,” said Logan. “It’s about getting students exposed to engineering at an early age – before they commit to careers in other more familiar vocations.” Ranae Anderson added, “We are thrilled to be a part of this very important program and honored to provide support. This aligns with our commitment to social responsibility and community outreach as defined by EnLIST®, our four-point commitment to environmental stewardship.”
|Pilot Program Delivers Huge Water Savings - Friday, February 14, 2020|
Furthering our commitment to sustainability and in doing what's best for the planet, Universal Fibers® developed a pilot program to reduce water waste in our production process. This new innovative system involves the reuse of what would otherwise be wastewater for further needs in production. The result is water savings of more than 2 million gallons, annually.
As a global company, we will be implementing this process for our production facilities in Europe and China. Once fully optimized, total annual water savings is expected to exceed 10 million gallons, worlwide.

|Second Corporate Sustainability Report Launches in Asheville. - Tuesday, September 17, 2019|
Universal Fibers® launched development of its second Corporate Sustainability Report with a two-day summit in Asheville, North Carolina USA. The event was led by Ranae Anderson, Global Sustainability Leader and included sustainability leaders from the private and public sectors. Due to its renowned reputation as a sustainable city, Asheville was selected for the forum which provided site visit opportunities to various sustainable venues. Meetings were held at The Collider, a mission-drive collaborate focused on solutions for climate change.
This year Universal Fibers celebrates its 50 Year Anniversary. While we are extremely proud of the positive impact we have made globally with our sustainable products and processes, our journey continues and the best is yet to come. In honor of this unparalleled anniversary, the theme of the Corporate Sustainability Report is LEGACY which will be reflected throughout.

Universal Fibers, Inc. advanced its commitment in Europe and Asia with the acquisition of twisting and heat-setting assets for its production facilities in Gorzow, Poland and Taicang, China. Both plants are fully integrated from extrusion to finished yarns in multiple chemistries including type 6 and 66 nylon, and serve carpet manufactures in commercial, residential and automotive segments.
“This marks another investment in our commitment to provide the highest level of quality and service to our customers,” said Phil Harmon, President of Universal Fibers. “As an expanding global company we continue to add resources and invest in our business to meet the unique and varied needs of our markets throughout the world.”
Universal Fibers offers premium solution-dyed fiber in styled finished yarns including Helix®, Silkworks® and Revolve®. These proprietary ready-to-tuft technologies are highly valued in the market and require various finish techniques including twisting and heat-setting. (Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland) – Universal Fibers, Inc. celebrated the grand opening of its new plant in Europe on May 13, 2019. The event was attended by Universal Fibers’ global customers and industry partners as well as leaders and officials from Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland.
“In support of our honored customers in Europe, we are thrilled to be opening our newest manufacturing facility here in Poland”, said Marc Ammen, CEO of Universal Fiber Systems. “This aligns with our strategy for global growth which began in 2009 with expansion into Asia and later in the U.K. Since then, customer response has been tremendous and we are winning in partnership with our industry leading products, quality and service.”

From our home in Bristol, Virginia US, Universal Fibers® joined forces with other area businesses for the 10th annual 5K run benefiting ALS research and No Child Left Unfed. As defined by EnLIST, our for point commitment to environmental stewardship, our community outreach support was on full display. Representing the largest group of contestants, more than 46 Associates from Universal Fibers proudly prevailed in cool rainy conditions and were honored to participate in this very worthy effort.
|Water Initiative Delivers Annual Savings of 22% - Friday, May 11, 2018|
In support of EnLIST, a four point commitment to environmental stewardship, Universal Fibers® established an initiative to reduce water use in the production of its sustainable fiber products. New processes were implemented in 2016 which resulted in an annual water savings of approximately 22%. As an added positive, water returns were reduced by 17% and energy was reduced for water treatment.
